Last weekend the 13th round of the MX World-Championship was staged at Matterly Basin, located to the Southeast of London, UK. Matterly Basin offers a beautiful, natural scaped high-speed track with wide corners, offering lots of grip and scattered with huge jumps and table-tops.
When the gate dropped for the first race on Sunday Joel Roelants cornered in second and chased race leader Ken Roczen for 14 laps in a row. Four laps before race-end Joel made a small mistake which enabled Tommy Searle to pass. Joel then upped the pace only to come up two seconds short on Searle on the finish line.
Still a magnificent performance from Joel who was the only rider to go below 2.06 per lap this day, posting the fastest lap time in MX1 and MX2 combined. Being the fastest rider out there does not automatically mean a podium-score as Joel would soon find out the hard way. At about half way in to the second race Joel encountered a technical problem which forced him to pull out while in 4th position. Third and DNF added up to a dissapointing 10th overall in Matterly Basin.

Jordi Tixier scored 9th overall for the GP, making it his best GP result of the season so far. During both races Jordi managed to defend his initial positions, coming in 12th and in 9th.
Pascal Rauchenecker had a rough start of his first race as he dropped back to 18th after an early crash. Pascal then fought back to 15th on the finish line.
During the second race, like Jordi he managed to hold his ground and finish in 12th, scoring a decent 15th overall for the event.

Teammanager Jacky Martens comment's; "Critics may say it is too little too late but last weekend we have seen Joel rising back to his true potential.
Joel made a lightning start, imediatly found a pefect rythm and was on the pace in an instant. This is the Joel like we know him.
During the second race, a stone roost damaged the ignition wiring which caused the engine to misfire at high rpm.
This means loss of power and even can cause engine-stall while taking off on a high speed jump, so Joel decided to not take any chances and abandon the race.
Joel was one of the fastest riders out there this weekend, so this second race DNF did not serve him justice at all.
Jordi and Pascal both put in strong performances with Jordi scoring his best overall GP result (9th) so far.
It appears both MX2 GP rookies are over their mini mid-season dip, less intimidated and able to physivcally withstand the first race better than before".

NEDERLANDSTALIGE VERSIE
Afgelopen weekeinde is in Matterly Basin in zuid engeland de 13e ronde uit het WK motorcross verreden. Matterly Basin is een prachtig, natuurlijk vormgegeven circuit met wijde bochten, veel grip en bezaaid met verre sprongen en tafelbergen.
Na het vallen van het starthek van de eerste reeks op zondag kwam Joel Roelants in tweede positie door en was hij 14 ronden lang in achtervolging op leider Ken Roczen.
Vier ronden voor het einde echter maakte Joel een klein foutje waardoor hij Tommy Searle voor moest laten gaan. Joel zette daarna nog een versnelling in maar kwam op de finish twee seconden tekort op Searle. Al met al een fantastisch resultaat wat Joel liet optekenen, hij was de enigste rijder (MX1 en MX2 gecombineerd) die deze dag onder een rondetijd van 2.06 wist te blijven. Joel zou er echter op pijnlijke wijze aan herinnerd worden dat de snelste rijder zijn niet automatisch een podiumplek garandeert. Op ongeveer halfweg in de tweede reeks ondevond Joel plots een technisch probleem waardoor hij de wedstrijd moest opgeven. Een derde plaats met een DNF was opgeteld goed voor een teleurstellende 10e plaats-overall in Matterly Basin.
Jordi Tixier wist overall de 9e plaats te pakken, zijn beste GP resultaat tot nog toe. Tijdens beide races wist Jordi zijn uitgangspositie vast te houden en daarmee de 12e en de 9e plaats te pakken.
Pascal Rauchenecker had een wilde start van de eerste reeks toen hij door een crash al snel teruggevallen was naar de 18e plaats. Daarna wist hij nog terug te vechten naar de 15e plaats op de finishlijn.
Tijdens de tweede reeks wist Pascal net zoals Jordi zijn plek te verdedigen en zo als 12e te finishen, daarmee een degelijke 15e plaats overall scorend.

Commentaar van teammanager Jacky Martens; "Critici kunnen zeggen dat het allemaal te laat komt maar afgelopen weekeinde hebben we terug een Joel gezien op zijn werkelijke kunnen. Hij nam een bliksemstart, had direkt het juiste ritme te pakken en was meteen op snelheid. Dit is de Joel zoals we hem kennen. Tijdens de tweede reeks is plots de bedrading van de onsteking beschadigd waardoor op hoge toeren de bougie niet altijd goed vonkte . Dit geeft vermogensverlies en kan zelfs de motor doen afslaan. Dit kan tijdens de aanloop naar een hoge sprong erg gevaarlijk zijn. Joel heeft er daarom voor gekozen geen onnodig risico te nemen en uit de wedstrijd te rijden. Joel was dit weekeinde een van de snelste piloten, daarom doet juist deze technische storing hem geen recht. Zowel Jordi als Pascal hebben optimaal gepresteerd, waarbij Jordi zijn beste GP resultaat tot nog toe liet optekenen (9e)
Zo te zien zijn beide MX2 GP debutanten over hun mid-season dipje heen, ze zijn minder snel geïntmideerd en beter in staat de eerste reeks fysiek te verteren".
